(After passing by Apple Spritz on the stairs, Crescendo turns right and enters the hall, closing the door behind him)

Crescendo: *closes the door and drops the book onto the floor. Stays silent for a moment, then turns and stabs his horn into the door thinking to himself* Idiot, idiot, idiot, idiot..! *accidentally says the last one out loud through his teeth*

Twilight: *coming up from behind him down the hall* Who's an idiot?

Crescendo: *flinches at his mothers voice and tries to turn, but realizes his horn is stuck in the door* Mom..! I um.. *sighs* I am..

Twilight: You stuck? *laughs a bit staring at him*

Crescendo: No, mom, getting my horn lodged in doors is a new hobby of mine... *sarcastically sighing*

Twilight: *smiles and rolls her eyes, uses her magic to losen the wood around his horn* May I ask why you felt the need to try and kill the door? Or did it just slam on your face, rudely?

Crescendo: *sighs; not in the mood for jokes* It was just a moment of frustration, mom.. I'm sorry. I'll fix the hole later.

Twilight: *stops smiling and notices the troubled look in her sons eyes* What's the matter, Crescendo? Is something wrong?

Crescendo: No, mom, just go do whatever it was you were heading out to do... I'll be fine. *starts walking passed her*

Twilight: Crescendo, I know when my own child is troubled.. You need to talk to somepony about whatever's wrong, havn't you learned from anything?

Crescendo: *stops walking and glances back at her - he knew she was referring to the Tenebris incident. Crescendo thought back about it and sighed, turning around* Fine..

Twilight: Alright, follow me. *smiles softy but then steps on the book he dropped* Oh? *picks it up* "Tales of the Broken Hearted: True Stories from True Ponies"? What in Equestria is this doing here?

Crescendo: *blushes in embarresment* I was reading some sections in it..

Twilight: *eyes widen staring at her son* You? You were reading from THIS? *tries to contain a giggle*

Crescendo: It's not funny, mom...

Twilight: I'm sorry, dear.. *stops giggling* I see now this is about a certain young mare, am I right?

(Crescendo remains silent and just turns his head)

Twilight: You know, I understand how you're feeling. When your father abandoned me, I thought I would never find love again; I thought no pony would ever fix what was broken. But then Flash came along, and I'm sure it was his destiny to be there for me. I know the events with you and Solar were-

Crescendo: Wait, what?! *interrupts his mother* Mom, no, this isn't about Solar Flare!

Twilight: Oh? I'm sorry, it's just I was speaking to Sunset a while back about... Well then who is this about? *holding up the book* As far as I knew, she's your only ex. Were you seeing somepony else behind my back?

Crescendo: No, mom.. *sighs* It's... It's just. It's Apple Spritz, mom. It's about her.

Twilight: Apple Spritz? *thoughts click and she understands* Oh! Oh, sweetheart, I'm sorry, I should've realized sooner..

Crescendo: What do you mean?

Twilight: Oh, well come on Crescendo, you two have been best friends since grade school! It was bound to happen, one or the other. And most ponies around here are already aware of how fond she is of you.

Crescendo: Yeah.. so am I.

Twilight: You know?

Crescendo: Yes, she told me. Well, not directly. But I know...

Twilight: Well then what's stopping you?! *smiles* She's a wonderful mare, hardworking, honest; just like her mother!

Crescendo: It's just... *glances at the book Twilight's holding* I'm scared. There are so many entries in that book of ponies who were best friends, who started going out, who made relationships... who had their relationships end, and their friendships die with it.. With Solar Flare and I, it was different. We weren't best friends; *chuckles a bit* Heck, we're pretty much rivals. But Spritzy.. she's always been there for me. I've protected her, she's defended me. I've taught her a few things, she's shown me things.. I don't have a memory where Apple Spritz isn't there somewhere... What if we turn out the same way some of those ponies in that book turn out? I don't want to lose the friendship we have..

Twilight: *listens to her son and smiles sadly* I understand, Crescendo. And yes, that is a risk that you would have to take.. But sweetheart; I know you. You will do anything for her, and she will do anything for you. You both have already made that perfectly clear if not to each other than to all of Ponyville. I know you're scared, but you'll never know unless you try - And you can't keep hiding away your feelings forever; we all know what that can lead to..

Crescendo: So what should I do? *looks up at her* Do I risk our friendship being in jeopardy or should I just go on living life like I have been?

Twilight: That's up to you, Crescendo. But if I had to give you another tip for advice... Stop reading junk like this. *holds up the book and laughs* These ponies are just those who chose the wrong path, and paid the price because of it. All you have to do is choose the right path to go down. *kisses the top of his head* I love you.

Crescendo: I love you too, mom... Thank you.
